The Harvest Prayer Ceremony (Tê Hrệ) – A unique agricultural ritual of the Khơ Mú people in Điện Biên. The Khơ Mú ethnic group (also known as Kmụ, Xá Cẩu, Tày Hạy, Mứn Xen, Pu Thềnh, Tềnh…) have lived for generations in the districts of Điện Biên, Tuần Giáo, Điện Biên Đông, and the former Mường Chà. In the community's life, rice plays an important role both materially and spiritually, and is an indispensable offering in agricultural rituals.

One of the typical rituals is the Harvest Prayer Ceremony (Tê Hrệ), which takes place annually around April or May of the lunar calendar, when the rice plants are growing well and the farming work has entered a period of leisure. The festival aims to express gratitude to the deities, the "mother of rice," and to pray for a bountiful harvest and a prosperous life. Before the ceremony, families in the village meet to prepare offerings including one pig, two chickens, a bundle of rice, wine, water, tea, fruits, paper money, traditional clothing, cloth, beeswax candles, etc. The larger the offerings, the more prosperous the villagers are considered. On the morning of the festival, the shaman and his assistants erect a "Rang Te" – a bamboo altar – to display the offerings. The shaman performs the ritual of lighting candles, pouring wine, praying in four directions, inviting the deities to witness the offerings, and smearing pig and chicken blood on the bamboo frames to ward off evil spirits. Afterward, the offerings are cooked and placed on a rack for another prayer, asking for a bountiful harvest and good health. Following the rituals in the fields, the community gathers at the shaman's house for a festival with traditional dances, musical instrument performances, and especially the bamboo pole dance, praying for favorable weather for the rice to bloom and bear fruit. The Harvest Prayer Ceremony is not only an important agricultural ritual but also a unique cultural feature, reflecting the beliefs and aspirations of the Khơ Mú people, while preserving the distinctive traditional values ​​of the community.
