Sticky rice cake
A simple dish that embodies the rich cultural traditions of the Hmong people. Banh Day (sticky rice cake) is a delightful treat during the traditional Hmong New Year, offered to honored guests and given as gifts to visitors. The rice used must be high-quality glutinous rice from the highlands, with plump, round, fragrant grains. After soaking for 3 to 4 hours, it is steamed until cooked. Then, the rice is pounded; the longer it is pounded, the more chewy and delicious the cake becomes. The finished cake is chewy, fragrant, and naturally sweet.
