Bản Mển, located in Thanh Nưa commune, Điện Biên district (now Thanh Nưa commune, Điện Biên province), is about 5 km north of Điện Biên Phủ city, along National Highway 12. The village has a natural area of ​​nearly 70 hectares, with approximately 45 hectares of cultivated land. It has 140 households with nearly 600 inhabitants, all of whom are Black Thai ethnic people. The villagers mainly live by cultivating rice and other crops, raising livestock, and weaving traditional brocade.

The first thing that impresses visitors when arriving in Bản Mển is the memorial plaque commemorating the artillery position, located on the left side of the small road leading into the village. This was the artillery position of Battalion 394 (belonging to the 367th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Regiment, 351st Artillery Division) that participated in the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign from March 30, 1954 to May 7, 1954.

As one of the first eight cultural villages in Dien Bien province to receive investment for the construction of a cultural center and upgrade to a tourism village between 2003 and 2010, Men village has, after nearly 20 years of participating in community tourism development, become accustomed to tourism practices linked to building a civilized lifestyle and a green, clean, and beautiful environment. Thanks to its correct approach to sustainable tourism development, Men village has not only become a tourist destination attracting many domestic and international visitors but has also preserved and promoted its traditional cultural identity, most notably the weaving and embroidery of brocade with characteristic ethnic products and gifts such as Piêu scarves, bags, shirts, and skirts.

Along with brocade weaving and embroidery, the Black Thai people here preserve traditional stilt house architecture, forming unique customs in their daily lives and production activities. The upper floor is for the host family's living quarters and receiving guests, while the lower floor houses looms, farming tools, wood, and firewood for cooking.

Currently, Men village is considered one of the cultural villages with a high capacity to welcome and serve tourists. Visiting Men village, tourists will have the opportunity to experience daily life with the locals, such as: experiencing weaving and embroidery of brocade; caring for livestock and poultry; fishing in the stream; and gathering firewood in the forest. Tourists can also participate in preparing and enjoying dishes characteristic of Thai ethnic cuisine, such as bamboo rice, sticky rice from mountain fields, grilled stream fish, dishes made from bitter bamboo shoots and Ban flowers… In the evening, there will be a special cultural exchange with performances by the village's own performing arts group.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of the government and people, along with their unity, friendliness, hospitality, and creativity in tourism development, Men village has become a favorite destination for tourists visiting Dien Bien.
