The Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Post in Muong Phang is a prominent historical site within the Dien Bien Phu Battlefield Special National Historical Monument. It was the third and final stop for the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command Post during its 105-day operation (from January 31, 1954 to May 15, 1954). Prior to this, the Command Post had stopped at Tham Pua Cave (for 42 days, from December 7, 1953 to January 17, 1954) and Huoi He Cave (for 13 days, from January 18, 1954 to January 30, 1954). The Command Post is nestled beneath the primeval forest canopy in Muong Phang commune, Dien Bien Phu city, approximately 17 km as the crow flies and 40 km by road from the center of the Dien Bien Phu fortified complex. The headquarters of the Campaign Command was located along a small, winding stream that curved around the foot of Mount Pú ​​Đồn, on a natural area of ​​approximately 90 square kilometers. It was arranged into a complex system of tunnels, trenches, and shelters, strategically positioned to accommodate the rapid pace of work of the Campaign Command while ensuring secrecy and safety. At the Campaign Command headquarters, dramatic battles of wits and strength took place between the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command – a collective of creative and flexible minds – and the French Expeditionary Army Command at Dien Bien Phu. It was also here, through his military strategy, that General Võ Nguyên Giáp made the correct decisions that led to the Dien Bien Phu victory, "renowned throughout the world and shaking the earth."
