Tham Pua Cave is located at the foot of Pu Hong Cay limestone mountain, in Ban Po, Chieng Dong commune, Tuan Giao district (now Bung Lao commune), Dien Bien province. This was the location of the first command post of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, under the command of General Vo Nguyen Giap.

Here, on January 14, 1954, General Vo Nguyen Giap and the front command disseminated secret combat orders with the plan of "quick attack, quick victory," and the intended date for the start of fighting was January 20, 1954.

Traveling about 60km along National Highway 279 towards Tuan Giao, the red tiled roofs of the houses of the people of Chieng Dong commune gradually appear before your eyes. Continuing along a small road about 3km long and crossing a stream… you are captivated by the magnificent cave scenery that nature has bestowed upon Tham Pua Cave. Behind a thick layer of vegetation about ten meters long, the cave entrance appears as a large rock arch, approximately 10 meters high, retaining its pristine, untouched beauty.

From here, you can see the entire valley below, stretching out in a lush green expanse of corn and rice... Not far away is the winding Nam Hua stream, creating a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere, as if trying to dispel the stifling heat of early summer days. Tham Pua Cave possesses a natural beauty that is still quite intact. The cave is spacious, and the deeper you go inside, the more you encounter large, flat rocks like tabletops covered in moss, along with stunning rock walls, ceilings, stalactites, and stalagmites. All of this creates a poetic and majestic natural landscape.

Furthermore, Tham Pua Cave holds significant archaeological value. More than 100 artifacts have been discovered, including stone tools made of pebbles; crude almond-shaped chopping tools with one end roughly chipped; Tools made from stream shells and traces of charcoal ash... All these artifacts carry immense historical significance, proving that this was a dwelling place of ancient Vietnamese people from time immemorial, and that this land has always been closely linked to the history of existence and development, as well as the history of the Vietnamese nation's struggle to build and defend its country.
